Generic Embedded Controller (GEC)
Originally developed and fielded for the Joint Biological Point Detection System, a program of the Joint Program Office for Bio-Defense, RTI has extended and abstracted this mission critical ruggedized proven controller into a very flexible turn-key solution for your embedded needs that it has named the Generic Embedded Controller (GEC).
What makes the GEC so impressive is the host of readily configurable proven functionality that reduces cost and schedule from parts selection through development and test for your custom application. The GEC has the following feature-rich attributes: - Small Plug and Play Footprint
- PC-104 Architecture
- LightWeight and Low Power
- Ethernet Connectivity
- Fiber Optic Connectivity
- Radio Modem Connectivity for Wireless Monitoring
- 232, 422, 485 Connectivity
- Digital IO
- Operational Software Communications and Command and Control Infrastructure in Place
- Internal and External Global Positioning System Input
- Meteorological Data Input
- Environmental Module for Temperature Sensing
- Universal Power Supply Interface and Sensing
- Built Around a Command and Control Paradigm, All Software Framework and Functionality is Included to Network Collaborative GECs Together and Monitor from a Remote Master - In Essence, Out of the Box Remote Array Monitoring Capabilities of Multiple Slaves by One Wintel Based Master
CASE STUDY: The Joint Biological Point Detection System (JBPDS) program provides a common integrated biological point detection suite for use by all services. It automatically detects and identifies 10 Biological Warfare (BW) agents within 20 minutes and improves detection sensitivity (15-25 Agent Containing Particles Per Liter of Air (ACPLA)) over currently fielded systems. It also has an exportable, computer based training capability. The system can be integrated on High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) and ships. Portable and fixed site configurations are also available. This common capability will enhance joint interoperability and supportability.
The JBPDS is used to protect air bases, ports, ships and forces. It is the primary device for rapid warning to commanders who will integrate JBPDS data with operational inputs such as intelligence and meteorological information to determine the level of personal protection needed by troops. The system is air, land and sea transportable.
RTI designed, developed, and sold off, the primary embedded controller for this system, known as the JBPDS Controller Subsystem (JCS) - it is the JCS that RTI converted and extended into a generic solution that is the GEC described above.
