(Fairfax, VA) - October 2, 1998 - RTI presented the IDAC POC and delivered a live demonstration of the capability at NASA's Langley Research Center. RTI teamed with engineers from NASA's Langley , NASA's Lewis, and the Logistics Management Institute (LMI), and provided the core technical expertise whose end result was the linking of several NASA complex Models into one integrated environment. In particular, RTI utilized the Executive Assistant as the major driver behind the development of a three-tier architecture which utilized an RTI built Java User Interface, Visigenic's CORBA product, IONA's CORBA product and model - specific interface wrappers to tie the NASA Models (at different sites) together into one Analysis Scenario that NASA users can utilize over the internet, regardless of location.

These very complex and very large mathematical models exist not only at different physical NASA locations, but are also hosted on disparate hardware and software platforms. This proof of concept, demonstrated how highly complex applications developed at different locations, can be seamlessly linked into one application. This proof of concept makes transparent the disparate geographic locations, disparate computer systems, and sets the stage for a collaborative computing environment in which NASA engineers can work in the same virtual office to pool their resources and synergies over the internet to solve much more complex problems as a group than they ever could have done as stand alone entities. This proof of concept also sets the stage to provide interface standards to be adhered to for future model development which facilitates commonality across NASA sites in an automated / collaborative environment.
