(R) Col Leonard Izzo Joins RTI’s Board of Advisors

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA – April 1, 2002 – RTI is pleased and honored to announce that (R) Col Leonard Izzo has joined RTI’s Board of Advisors. (R) Col. Izzo brings over 30 years of experience in engineering, project management and program development, within the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) field, to RTI’s Board of Advisors.

(R) Col Leonard A. Izzo retired from the United States Army in March 2002 after 30 years of service, having reached the rank of Colonel in the Chemical Corps. A native of Belleville, NJ, he graduated from New York University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and was commissioned a second lieutenant through ROTC in 1972.

His distinguished military career includes multiple assignments in the Pentagon, serving as a Chemical staff officer on the Army General Staff (1987-1989; 1993-1997), and as a project manager in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (1989-1991). In his last assignment prior to retirement, as Chief of the NBC Defense Division for the Department of the Army and Director of the Joint NBC Defense Board Secretariat, he was responsible for the overall coordination and integration of the Department of Defense Chemical and Biological Defense Program. From 1997 to 1999, as Director of Combat Developments at the U.S. Army Chemical School, Fort McClellan, AL, he was responsible for NBC defense operational concepts, organizational designs, and materiel requirements.

Mr. Izzo has had a variety of command assignments including Commander, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory, Fort Gillem, GA; Commander, Albany, NY Recruiting Area; Commander, Headquarters Battery, 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Osan, Korea; and Commander, Headquarters Company, Edgewood Arsenal, MD. Additionally, he has served as a Chemical Engineer in the Manufacturing Technology Directorate at Edgewood Arsenal and as an Intelligence Analyst at the U.S. Army Foreign Science and Technology Center.

He is a graduate of the Army War College, Army Command and General Staff College, the Chemical Officer Advanced Course, and the Chemical Officer Basic Course. His decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
