RTI Awarded Follow-up Task on JBPDS
RTI has been awarded a second, follow-up contract by the United States Army to continue as the prime software lead and contractor on the Joint Biological Point Detection System (JBPDS). The contract exceeds $1.5M and includes software improvements and modifications, which will prepare the JBPDS for the mass production starting in FY 2001. RTI’s engineers are teamed with staff from Battelle Memorial Institute, MIT, Lincoln Labs, and Lockheed Martin Librascope. The JBPDS will provide a common integrated biological point detection suite for use by all United States military services. It will have an exportable, computer-based training capability, as well as portable and fixed-site configurations. The system will be integrated on Navy vessels and High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs). The JBPDS will be used to protect air bases, ports, ships and forces. It will be the primary device for rapid warning to commanders who will integrate JBPDS data with operational inputs such as intelligence and meteorological information to determine the level of personal protection needed by troops. The system will be air, land and sea transportable. To learn more about JBPDS, visit http://wwwjpobd.net/.
